Macodes petola Jewel Orchid

$29.95
Description

Macodes petola is known for its electric gold veining that looks like lightning running through the leaves. Each leaf has a soft velvet texture and a deep olive-green base that glows when light hits from the side. It stays compact and low, forming a small rosette that slowly spreads with new growth. The leaves are delicate but sturdy when kept in steady humidity, and they shimmer under cabinet or terrarium lighting. A true jewel orchid prized for its foliage rather than its blooms, perfect for anyone who loves fine details and collector plants. Growing happily and thriving in live sphagnum moss.

Care Guide

Care for Macodes petola

Light
Soft, filtered light suits them best. Avoid direct sun, as it can fade or scorch the delicate leaves. Inside a cabinet or under adjustable LED lighting works perfectly.

Water
Growing in moss helps keep moisture consistent, but it should never stay soggy. Let the moss feel just damp to the touch, not wet. Water with rain or distilled water to prevent mineral marks on the leaves.

Humidity
They love steady humidity around 70–90%. Cabinets or enclosed setups make this easy. If yours are out in the open, add a mini humidifier or cluster them with other moisture-loving plants.

Temperature
Keep them warm and stable—around 20–26°C is ideal. They dislike drafts and cold snaps.

Soil / Medium
They grow beautifully in sphagnum moss or a fine orchid mix that stays moist but airy. Moss also makes it easy to monitor roots and maintain even hydration.

Fertiliser
Feed lightly during active growth using a diluted foliage fertiliser every few weeks. Skip feeding through winter when growth slows.

Please Note

Unless stated, plants are shipped in their nursery pots, as shown in the photos.

Minor blemishes or imperfections on foliage are normal and do not affect plant health. Each plant is unique, so size, colour, and shape may vary slightly.

Please choose carefully — some plants may be toxic to people or pets if ingested.

Decorative pots and plants are sold separately.
