How We Use Growth Technology
The Growth Technology Products We Use
We’re often asked which fertilisers and additives we use on our indoor plants, especially our aroids and Hoyas. Here’s a simple guide to how we use the Growth Technology range, starting with the easiest method for beginners, then moving into more technical advice for serious collectors.
🌿 The Simple Way to Fertilise (Beginner Friendly)
If you only want to do one thing:
-
Use Foliage Focus once a week when your plants are actively growing (Spring to early Autumn).
-
Mix 5 mL of Foliage Focus per 1 litre of water and water your plants as normal.
-
For flowering plants (like Hoyas when they’re budding), switch to Flower Focus using the same rate.
That’s it!
If you want to keep it really simple, using just Foliage Focus or Flower Focus will still keep your plants healthy and growing strong.
🌱 Adding in Root Support (Still Easy)
If you want to boost your plants a little more without much extra effort:
-
Add RootZone to the same watering jug when you fertilise.
-
Mix 2 mL of RootZone per 1 litre of water, along with your Foliage Focus or Flower Focus.
Why?
RootZone strengthens the root system, improves nutrient uptake, and helps plants recover from stress like repotting or shipping.
🌟 Building a Stronger Plant Structure (Intermediate Level)
To make your plants even stronger and more resilient:
-
Add GT Silica to your watering once every 2 to 3 weeks.
-
Mix 2 mL of GT Silica per 1 litre of water, together with your Foliage Focus (or Flower Focus).
Important Tip:
Always add GT Silica first to your water and stir it in well before adding other fertilisers. Silica needs to bond with water before mixing with nutrients.
Why?
GT Silica strengthens cell walls, reduces wilting, and helps plants cope better with heat, light stress, and handling.
Supporting White Variegation with GT Silica
Plants with high levels of white variegation, like Monstera albo, Philodendron White Princess, and variegated Hoyas, naturally have weaker leaf tissue. The white parts of the leaf contain little to no chlorophyll, making them thinner, more delicate, and more prone to mechanical damage like tearing.
Regular use of GT Silica helps by strengthening cell walls and improving overall plant resilience, giving variegated leaves a bit more support and structure over time.
However, GT Silica won't prevent browning caused by environmental stress, poor watering practices, or low humidity. Browning in white sections is usually due to moisture stress, sunburn, low humidity, or natural aging. Silica is a useful support tool for building stronger leaves, but it’s not a quick fix for issues caused by incorrect conditions.
Good light, consistent humidity, careful watering, and plant health practices alongside silica use will give variegated plants the best chance to stay strong and vibrant.
🌸 Encouraging Stronger Blooms (For Flowering Plants)
If you're focusing on plants that are flowering (like Hoyas or Orchids):
-
Use Flower Focus instead of Foliage Focus when buds form.
-
For extra support, add CCS Solution to boost calcium, carbon, and silicon levels.
-
Mix 2 mL of CCS Solution per 1 litre of water, alongside your Flower Focus.
Why?
CCS Solution improves flower quality, helps prevent bud drop, and strengthens stems and leaves.
🧪 Advanced Feeding: Combining Additives (Technical Level)
If you want to fully optimise your plant nutrition, here's how you can combine products carefully:
Regular Weekly Watering Mixture:
-
5 mL Foliage Focus or Flower Focus per 1 litre of water
-
2 mL RootZone per 1 litre of water
-
(Optional every 2–3 weeks) 2 mL GT Silica per 1 litre of water (added first)
When Additional Calcium is Needed:
-
Add 2 mL of CCS Solution or Cal-Mag Nit per 1 litre of water (along with your fertiliser)
-
Great for Monstera, Philodendrons, and Hoyas showing weak new growth or curling leaves.
Important:
Never mix GT Silica directly into a concentrated fertiliser without diluting it in water first. Always stir silica into clean water, then add fertiliser.
🌼 Other Products We Use
